Fans of the Mounds View High School girls tennis team could find themselves spending some big chunks of time at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center this week. The Mustangs qualified for the team tournament and have a pair of players in the singles draw.

Mounds View plays in the Class AA team tournament starting Tuesday. The Mustangs, the champions of Section 5AA, are unseeded and face No. 2 seed Minnetonka at noon. Top-seeded Edina is the heavy favorite as it goes in search of its 17th consecutive state team championship.

The team tournament continues with the consolation semifinals on Tuesday afternoon. The semifinals are Wednesday morning with the final rounds on Wednesday starting at noon. The state championship match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Starting on Thursday, Mounds View senior Summer Brills and freshman Alexandra Kopiecki play in the Class AA singles tournament. Brills is the defending state singles champion and qualified for state this year by winning the section singles title.

Kopiecki is making her first state singles appearance. She qualified via her second-place finish in the singles tournament. Brills beat Kopiecki in the section final 6-1, 6-1.
