Bernita Louise “Bernie” Olson-Holzer (Fortier)

Bernita Louise “Bernie” Olson-Holzer (Fortier) went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Dec. 17 in at the age of 81, in Hettinger, ND after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Bertina was born on Jan. 17, 1934 in Brooks, MN to Albert and Florence (Champagne) Fortier. Bernie graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1952. She went onto Anchor School of Nursing, in St. Paul and graduated with her nursing degree in 1955. Bernie later went on to become a Nurse Anesthetist. In 1978 she relocated to Hettinger, ND where she met and married Leander W. “Willie” Holzer.

Bernie had a long and very successful career as a Nurse Anesthetist at the West River Health Services regional facility in Hettinger, ND. Bernie was a very active and dedicated member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND.

Bernie is survived by her husband, Leander W. “Willie” Holzer of Hettinger, ND; sisters, Bonnie (Fran) Turgeon of Lexington, IL, Suzette Prudhomme of North St. Paul and Judith Fortier of Aberdeen, MD; children, Scott (Suzanne) Olson of Poulsbo, WA, Wende (Mark) Bergmeier of Auburn, NE, Glen Olson of St. Paul, Kris (Angie) Olson of Maplewood, Mark Olson of Hettinger ND, Cindi Jacobsen of Maplewood and Jennie (Mike) Kluthe of Anoka; also survived by many grand children and great grand children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Florence Fortier; brothers Emery and Byron; sisters Francella Butler and Elaine Varin and Albert R. Olson.

A cremation took place on December 18th. A Celebration of Bernie’s life will take place during the summer of 2016 in Hettinger, ND. Ashes will be interred at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
