Roseville volleyball caps fifth straight state trip

The Roseville Area High School volleyball team saw its fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament end short of its goal. The Raiders went 0-2 in the Class AAA tournament.

Following a tough five-set loss to Champlin Park in the quarterfinals, Roseville couldn’t find a groove in its consolation semifinal match against Moorhead. The Spuds kept the Raiders from going on any long runs and won the match 25-16, 27-25, 25-13.

Moorhead used a late six-point run to pull away in game one. Game two was tight most the way with eight ties. Following an Alivia Garbe kill, Moorhead closed it out with back-to-back kills.

The Spuds were in control through most of game three as only once did Roseville score two consecutive points.

With the loss, Roseville closed out its season with a record 18-13. In its five state appearances, Roseville finished fourth twice, fifth once and went 0-2 twice.

Roseville and Moorhead have met in the state tournament three times in the past four seasons. The Spuds are 2-1 against the Raiders at state and both wins, in 2013 and 2016, have come in the consolation semifinals. Roseville’s state victory over the Spuds came in the 2015 quarterfinals.
