SNAPSHOTS: Snow and ice and not much nice


Two things Minnesota is known for, snow and ice, made a dramatic reappearance last week after a relatively uneventful winter so far. Snow blanketed the state the night of Jan. 27 and into the next day, though, mercifully, piling up a few inches shy of some forecasts predicting eight inches or more. Come Jan. 28, North St. Paul saw the typical post-storm sight on Seventh Avenue East of a mini-mountain of snow, moved from the street to the empty lot across from the Post Office.

Community asked to help create new Lake Phalen mural


file photo A mural will be installed at Lake Phalen this summer and the process is being lead by artist Liv Novotny, who helped with the Urban Roots Youth Council’s mural at Phoenix Market in Dayton’s Bluff last year.

A mural will be installed at Lake Phalen this summer and organizers are asking the community to help brainstorm ideas for it.

SSP finalizing plans for Fifth Avenue South renovation


courtesy of City of South St. Paul South St. Paul plans to add bump outs to Fifth Avenue South as part of its $5.4 million renovation of the road. Bump outs help reduce parking illegally close to intersections and improve pedestrian safety.

The South St. Paul City Council voted Jan. 22 to unanimously move forward with the renovation of Fifth Avenue South, giving the City Engineering Department the green light to finalize plans.

Trail to be constructed along Johnson Parkway
