Letters to the Editor Issued Sept. 27, 2006
'Honest citizens want truth'
To the editor:

Christeen Stone wrote the Lillie News thanking them for their "balanced coverage" of Maplewood politics Aug. 29. I believe the number of articles published by the local newspapers (suburban and metro papers) are: 37 upholding the old regime, and 3 for the new. Ironically, the Lillie News has published 0 articles supporting the new Council members. The good, decent, honest citizens of Maplewood have had their fill of "balance." They want, and deserve-the truth.

Carver kids take a trek
To the editor:

Maplewood Parks and Recreation and Carver Elementary School have teamed up to promote physical activity as a way of life and to encourage the fifth grade students at Carver to be more conscious of their health and nutrition.
The fifth grade class at Carver Elementary School will be conducting a virtual "trek" across the United States departing from Maplewood, Minnesota and walking to New York, New York. This accomplishment equates to a total of 1,284 miles. Each student will receive a pedometer on Sept. 28 to keep track of the number of steps that they take each day. A tracking record will be recorded weekly as the entire team moves closer to the goal of New York. On the journey they will virtual travel through Wisconsin, Chicago, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and on to New York. Incentive gifts will be received when they reach selected cities to keep the participants motivated on their journey.
Maplewood Parks and Recreation and Carver Elementary School hope the kids in this program will continue to take strides each day toward greater health and fitness. This project was one step in a lifetime of health choices that each will have to make.
We have been encouraged by the change in attitude regarding fitness as well as the improvement in physical ability.
Good Luck Fifth Graders!

Assistant to the Parks Director
Maplewood Parks and Recreation Department

Check out the Lions
To the editor:

The North St. Paul Lions Club thanks all the people that patronized the bratwurst stand over the summer at the Friday Night Car Show. All our proceeds go back into the community building ramps, giving monies to charitable projects, collecting glasses and hearing aids for the needy. We are proud to serve North St. Paul. We are looking for new members; we meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:45 p.m. at the American Legion. Check us out.

Watch those incumbents
To the editor:

I have watched the present Auditor and Secretary of State. They have done a great job for their Party: but not in serving the people of Minnesota. We need a change !
I am very impressed with Rebbecca Otto (candidate for Auditor). When she was Representative of her district she worked very well across party lines and recieved high marks from both sides.
She has brought to light a great many errors in our present Auditors office, such as the lost computers and finiancial errors. I have been very impressed with all the things I learned from her website.
I had met Mark Richie 20 years ago when he served under Governor Perpich in the Department of Agriculture working onTrade Policy and the Farm Crisis. He founded the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy one of the largest in Minnesota working to restore economic vitality to Greatrer Minnesota.
Ten years ago he created the the League of Rural Voters to increase registeration and voting. In 2004 he took a leave to establish a non partisan group that involved 1,000 groups (5 million people) called the November 2nd Group. They worked educating and to get out the vote.
He had trouble in Florida, Ohio, and Minnesota working with the too political Secrataries of State. I too have found to much politics in our present office. I was also very impressed with his website and experience.
Wake up Minnesota ! Study your candidates and vote Nov. 7!
