ice cream wins national awards North St. Pauls HomeTown Creamery, 2231 E. 11th Ave. (at McKnight Road) received two awards at the 72nd annual National Ice Cream Retailers Association Convention Nov. 19 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The North St. Paul ice cream shop, which is owned and operated by Howie Walters, received a red ribbon (second place) for its vanilla ice cream and a white ribbon (third place) for its strawberry ice cream. It was the only Minnesota ice cream shop receiving awards.
The judging was conducted by a dairy scientist and ice cream experts. Samples were tested in a laboratory for flavor, body, texture, color and melting quality.
HomeTown Creamery produces its ice cream in its North St. Paul shop and customizes ice cream creations for customers.
